Venerated Voices™ 2016 Q3 Rankings

Advisor Perspectives, a leading publisher serving financial advisors and the financial advisory community, has announced its Venerated Voices awards for commentaries published in Q3 2016. Rankings were issued in three categories: The Top 25 Venerated Voices by Firm, The Top 25 Venerated Voices by Author and The Top 10 Venerated Voices by Commentary.

Leading the Top 25 Venerated Voices by Firm category was Hoisington Investment Management of Austin, Texas, followed by Richard Bernstein Advisors of New York City. In third place was Leuthold Weeden Capital Management of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Among individual commentators, the most-widely read was Doug Ramsey of Leuthold Weeden Capital Management, followed by Tom Rowley of Invesco. Third place went to Jeremy Grantham of GMO.

The most-widely read commentary of Q3 was Is That All? by Liz Ann Sonders of Charles Schwab. Sonder’s piece was published September 13 and followed the ups and downs of the S&P 500 prior to the September 21 Fed meeting. She offered possible causes for the summer rally and mid-September weakness, citing sentiment and Fed-policy uncertainty as major contributors.

Coming in second was Bob Farrell’s Illustrated 10-Investment Rules by Lance Roberts of Real Investment Advice. Published September 19, Roberts presented Bob Farrell’s 10-Investment Rules as a follow up to market volatility in September. Farrell’s rules attempt to prevent emotional investing and reactions to current events. Some of Farrell’s rules include: “The market tends to return to its mean”; “When all the experts and forecasts agree – something else is going to happen”; and “Bull markets are more fun than bear markets.”

Doug Ramsey of Leuthold Weeden Capital Management took third place with Who’s Selling Bonds?, published July 19. Ramsey detailed the positions of commercial hedgers in Treasury bond futures and cited their timing records as evidence of their recent build-up of short positions.

Advisor Perspectives’ website currently attracts over 160,000 unique visitors per month, virtually all of them financial advisors serving high- and ultra-high net worth individuals. The company publishes economic and market commentaries submitted by fund companies, advisors and independent research firms. In Q3 2016, over 700 such commentaries were published and made available through a daily newsletter, Research Perspectives, which the company emails to its subscribers.

Venerated Voices™ rankings were determined by the number of unique readers of each commentary, using data provided electronically by the third-party web analytics service Google Analytics. The data were normalized to reflect the fact that usage of Advisor Perspectives’ website grew steadily over the course of the quarter. For the annual awards for the firm and author, a minimum of three commentaries must have been submitted during the year. Any participant is eligible to receive a quarterly award. Each firm and author was assigned a relative score, with a score of 285 equal to average Q3 readership.

Advisor Perspectives was founded in 2007 and is based in Lexington, Massachusetts. In addition to Research Perspectives, it publishes a widely read weekly newsletter, Advisor Perspectives, which contains original articles on the markets, the economy and practice management.

Advisor Perspectives will continue providing quarterly updates to its rankings, as well as issuing annual Venerated Voices™ awards.
