Top Articles in July Cover Everything From IRAs to RIAs

The top articles on Advisor Perspectives during the month of July featured some of the most popular longtime writers for the site, as well as a few newcomers.

William Bernstein and Edward McQuarrie topped the charts with “Smart Roth, Dumb Roth,” which explored different scenarios around best practices for Roth IRAs, dictated by the premises that you should 1) not pay too much and 2) hold your highest return asset in your Roth forever.

Michael Edesess clocked in with the second-most viewed article in July, “The Trial of Barry Ritholtz.” He reviewed the Ritholtz Wealth Management founder’s latest book “How Not to Invest: The ideas, numbers, and behavior that destroy wealth — and how to avoid them.” It is an overall glowing review, with a few minor – but material – quibbles.

The third-most viewed article was “Size Matters in the Roth IRA Conversion Decision,” by Victor Haghani and James White of Elm Wealth. In it, they discuss how to decide whether you should convert a traditional IRA or 401(k) into a Roth IRA. It’s definitely more complicated than you think.

Laurence Siegel wrote the article that claimed the No. 4 space, “Is There an Energy Transition? Yes, But It’s Not What You Think.” The piece considers the points made in a presentation about energy transition by investor and Stanford University Professor Jane Woodward, given at the Foundation Financial Officers Group’s semiannual conference. Siegel reviews the presentation and places it in the context of research done by other experts in the field.

The Emotional and Time Value of Advice,” an article from Vanguard’s Paolo Costa, Marsella Martin, and Malena de la Fuente was the fifth-most viewed article in July. It looks at how advisors are often instrumental in lowering their clients’ stress levels and freeing up clients’ time.
